Since young I have the ambition to be a Naval Officer. Somehow, my father was responsible for this passion in me to be one as I saw how smart he was in the naval uniform, he told me details of his visits (and showed me photographs taken with the foreign naval officers and visits to places of interests) to various countries with the naval fighting ships for exercises as well as participating in overseas naval construction programmes. These are three main reasons which steer me to work towards being a naval officer like my father.

My love to be a Naval Officer was triggered when my father brought me (when I was about 11 years old) to the naval ship during the navy open house on 5 May 02. I was fascinated with the naval fighting ships and also the discipline and respect in the naval camp. I am fully aware that the training as a naval officer is tough both physically and mentally and I must be prepared for sacrifices if I want to serve and protect the country. Life on board the naval fighting ships are tough especially during bad sea states and foul weather. However, life in the Navy can also be fun as my father has participated in the construction programmes for the Missile Corvettes and Frigates. In addition, during his tour onboard the naval ships, he had the opportunity to travel to various countries such as Australia, India, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, etc. Likewise, I would want to have this opportunity to travel too and perhaps if I study well, I may even get a scholarship from the Republic of Singapore Navy.
