My ambition is to become Naval Officer.The job scope is the newly commissioned officers are then posted to the Fleet for bridge Watch keeping Certificate which certifies himm competent for taking charge of a ship at sea.In his operational posting, the Naval Officer assumes the role of a Bridge Watch keeping Officer. He is responsible to the Commanding Officer for the safety and efficient handling of the ship while he is on watch. This requires a thorough professional knowledge of navigation, meteorology,ship handling and communications.Then it is back to the classroom again for further advance training at the Navel Junior Offices Course. He is given further training on professional subjects as well as subjects like surface and underwater tactical warfare. On completion of the course, the Naval Officer is qualified to serve his first posting as an appointment holder on board a naval ship normally as a Navigation Officer. Specific warfare oriented training is also provided to enable him to fill other shipboard specialist appointments. After gaining seagoing experience working on the ship and assuming junior appointment onboard, the Naval Officers would attend the Naval Advanced Officers Course where they are trained to be staff officers or senior appointment holders on board ships.

The post of a Naval Officer requires the individual to have either a GCE A level, Diploma or Dgree qualification. The incumbent must be medically fit with good eyesight(not colour-blind), below the age of 26. With all these in place tangible requirements in place, there is a final hurdle which is the face-to-face interview for the senior naval officers to assess and size up the individual to confirm that he or she has the required leadership qualities to be a Naval officer.

Some careers may be transitional or be affected by certain economic factors but the future propects of being a Naval Officer looks bright. the need to build up a credible seaward defence for Singapore and the security of its sea-lanes of communications would remain relevant as long as long as Singapore remains a sovereign state.
